Hi, I was wondering how do you save a file onto a specific folder on that thumb drive? When I go to the save dialog, it only gives me the option to put it on the drive, not actually select a folder and it's kind of irritating.
You should be able to select the drive then a folder inside that drive. what are you using for the listing of files, list view or icon view?
I'm not sure h= do I find out?
if you can not find out what view you are using, as I do not remember off the top of my head, here is a work around to that
save the fial on your hard drive, nagivate to the folder you saved it in with the finder, then do a command c for coppy on that file. move to your drive on the side bar, then in the drives window, move to the place you want the file, then press command v to paist it in there. I am not sure why you are having this issue with the save dialog, but what helps me is if I use the side bar in the dialog to move to the drive I want to save to then use the drives corisponding window to move to the folder. you should be able to change to icon view in the dialog bu5t I am not sure
Related question: How come some folders will not let you cut and paste from? Downloads will let you copy from there but you can't cut. You have to copy from downloads, then delete the copy in Downloads.
Slightly different question but kind of related ... Finder being hinky I guess.
I noticed that too, I was trying to cut a file from downloads wige command X, but it wasn't working. In the save dialog, there is no sidebar, it just has a popup button and a menu so select the drive, but than after hitting Vo space, the next thing after that is a Cancel button than the Save button, but there is no option to select a folder.
the side bar is kind of hard to find, its a group. also, you have to use the move command. I forget what it is, as I am not close to my mac command
I looked in the save dialog, and ther's not even a group, it's just a text field where you can name it, then a tag editor, then the popup box to select a drive, but after selecting the drive when moving the right, the next item is the cancel button, than the save button. There's no sidebar or group anywhere I've tried interacting with everything in the dialog so I'll just have to copy and paste I guess.
Good morning. To show the side bar when you are in a save dialog check the box that says show disclosure triangle. This box is unchecked by default. Once you unchec this box you'll see the side bar and the browser to pick your folder. The move command is Command-Shift-V. Thanks.
Where is the box to show the disclosure triangle?
When you go to the save dialog you will need to use the voiceover curser to navigate the dialog. The check box says "disclosure"
Ah, you people are something else! Thanks for the help guys, as usual. For all
that people make negative comments about online forums usage, this is the
sort of stuff that really helps and saves time. I appreciate the answers given
here, it really helps.
How do I use the voiceover cursor?
Good morning. May I make a suggestion which may answer many of your questions. Press Command-option-f8 which will bring you in to the voiceover tutorial. This is a very effective way of introducing a new user to voiceover. The voiceover keys are control and option held together. So, to move the voiceover curser hold control-option and use left and right arrows. You can also lock the vo curser by pressing control-option-semicolon. Unlock it by just pressing semicolan. If control-option-f8 doesn't work to bring you to the tutorial then add the function key to that combination. The function key is to the left of the control key on the left side of the keyboard.
Ok thanks
Yeah I found that confusing, but yeah once you select the drive, you can
select a folder; the folders will show up once you select it, and if you want
the file on the root of the drive, you just select the drive and don't do
anything else just click save.
Where would the save button be? Is it in that dilaogue?
